Our Mission Statement, The Adventure, and Goal

Starting 1 November 2011 we are planning on embarking on a rather extraordinary adventure--heading down to South America and, possibly, Kenya to do Humanitarian work.  Not that Christian doesn't love his job...because he does!  It's just that, with the culmination of an entire lifetime of working in, for, and around the construction industry, from labor to engineering, Christian would like to do something slightly more...productive rather than destructive, i.e., building things that help people live, as opposed to hangar bays for bombing planes and staging areas for tactical weapons.

We don't have all the details worked out, but here is what we've got so far...

Christian has been talking with a woman at LDS Church headquarters, an inside source providing insight as to where the Church has sustainable projects that need volunteers.

Chile

We chose South America because of the recent earthquake activities in Chile.  Christian served his mission in Argentina and speaks Spanish...I've still have yet to learn (fingers crossed).  Having been to Chile, I know it is a beautiful country and seems like as good of a place as any for us to start.

Kenya came about by way of ongoing water-well projects the LDS Church has going on.  It is basically setting up wells for the people who don't have access to clean, potable water.  We figured with Christian's experience in construction (specifically, water wells) that he could contribute greatly.

We're thinking of staying 6 months to a year in each place.  But, of course, that is subject to change--we may love Chile and stay, we may hate it, move on, or come home after 6 months, who knows! We're both pretty free-spirited, both love to travel, and figured this was a good way to do something fantastic, experiencing new cultures while doing some good in the process.
